“Rocky” touched the heart. Isn’t that what the best pictures do?
While “Taxi Driver” may claim to have better individual talent in
it – whether it be DeNiro and Jodie Foster in the acting
department or whether it be the director, cinematographer,
musical score etc – they all need to come together as a whole to
move the hearts and minds of the audience.
“Rocky”, on the other hand may not have had stalwarts in any of
the lead roles or among the technical talent, but all its parts
came together to brilliantly tell the ‘underdog’ story. (The
making of the movie itself is a great underdog story, but that’s
another matter…)
If I wanted to kick back with some beer, popcorn and a great
film, “Rocky” would be my pick over “Taxi Driver” any day.
